Falafel is one of my favorite healthy recipes. They are made of chickpeas and herbs originating from Egyptian and Middle Eastern cooking. Formed in the shape of balls or patties and commonly deep-fried.
Enjoy them inside a pita with lettuce and tomato, add them to a plate of greens and enjoy!!
Falafel & Hummus (easy homemade)

Hummus
- 3/4 Cup Chickpeas
- 3-4 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 3 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 Cloves Garlic
- 3-4 Tbsp Tahini sauce(Recipe in Instructions section)
FalaFel
- 1&1/4 Cup Chick Peas
- 1 Cup Coriander or Parsley leaves
- 1 Piece Onion Medium Size
- 1 Tbsp Paprika
- 1 Tbsp Black Pepper Powder
- 1 + 1/2 Tbsp Baking Powder
- 1 + 1/4 Tbsp Salt (to taste)
- 1 Tbsp Cumin Powder
- 4 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 3-4 Cloves Garlic
Hummus
The night before, soak the chickpeas for overnight or at-least 6hr.
Add all the ingredients in a blender & make a fine smooth paste.
Serve in a plate,add generous amount of olive oil . I've added 2-3 pinch of paprika on top for more flavour. garnish with chopped parsley or coriander leaves.
FalaFel
The night before soak the chickpeas for overnight or at-least 6hr.
In a mixer grinder add chickpeas & all the ingredients mentioned above for the falafel recipe & make a thick paste(don't add water).
Heat a pan for frying on medium heat.
Use your hands, spoon or scoop to form the falafel into balls or patties. If mixture is too wet, add 2-4 tbsp breadcrumbs. if it's too dry add 1-2tbsp lemon juice.
Deep fry the patties for 2&3 minutes until golden brown. takeout in a paper towel serve hot with hummus,tahini , pita bread and pickled veggies
In a platter arrange all the items hummus ,pita, falafel ,fries, pickled veggies,olives, cucumber & Tomato,mayo & enjoy!!
Tahini Sauce
Heat a pan on low heat,add 1cup of sesame seeds & dry roast till the color change to light golden. remove immediately from the pan.
In a food processor or mixer jar add roasted sesame seed & 4-5tbsp oil
Grind until you get a fine creamy sauce consistency. sauce is ready.serve remaining tahini as a dip
