Achari Chicken

The Achari chicken curry is filled with great flavors from whole spices . It is perfect curry that has the right flavors of spiciness and strong flavors of Achari Masala. This will taste like bliss with a fresh naan or zeera rice and some salad on the side.

Ingredients
  

Achari Masala

  • 6-8 allspice / Kebabchini
  • 2 pinch Fenugreek Seed
  • 1/2 tsp Black seeds/Kalonji
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seed/ saunf
  • 1&1/2 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 1&1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Cinnamon Stick
  • 3 Dry Red Chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Ajwain /carom seed

For Chicken Marinade

  • 1 kg Chicken with Bones
  • Prepared Achari masala powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Red Chilly Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
  • 3&1/2 tbsp Whisked Thick Yogurt Full Fat

For Gravy

  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 6 Garlic cloves
  • 12-15 Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 pinch Black seeds/Kalonji
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 cup Thick tomato paste or 2-3 medium size tomato puree
  • 3-4 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • Pinch of red food colour
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Cilantro/Coriander leaves

Instructions
 

Achari Masala

  • To make Achari masala ,add all the ingredients in a mixer grinder & make a fine powder.

Chicekn Marinade

  • Marinate the chicken by mixing all the marinade ingredient in the chicken. Cover & refrigerate for 1-2 hours .

Gravy

  • To make gravy ,Heat oil in a pan & add onions, Fry until it starts changing color.
  • Now add garlic cloves, curry leaves, cumin, kalonji & mustard seeds & fry on medium flame for 1min.
  • Add salt, chilli, turmeric powder and tomato paste. Mix well & cook for 2 minutes. 
  • Add marinated chicken & cook on high flame for 4-5 minutes.
  • Add 1&1/4 cup water ,cover & cook until the chicken is completely cooked(about 15-20 min)on low flame
  • Add lemon juice, check for salt ,add if needed.
  • Add garam masala & chopped coriander leaves.
    Serve hot with roti naan or rice!!!
